Students Lend A Hand & Learn About Worms
Year 7 students from Austin Cove Baptist College have been a great help mulching pathways to control weeds, sowing seeds, washing and disinfecting pots for reuse, weeding garden beds and having a mini master class on compost worms. Students potted up succulents to take home and had a taste test of some of the herbs and broad beans growing in the garden.
MCG Participates In Australia's Biggest Quiz
Australia's biggest Quiz created a new Guinness World Record AND spread the word that there is a cure for Hepatitis C. The team from Mandurah Community Gardens had fun, participating in warm up games then having a go at the trivia questions.

Work Experience For Tyler
Tyler completed 2 terms of work experience with Mandurah Community Gardens. Not only did gain some horticultural knowledge, he got to learn about running a garden, and he also made a great contribution to helping us maintain and harvest it. We wish him all the best for his future!
Selling Bendigo Raffle Tickets at Bunnings
With help from our long-time supporter Bunnings and a special thanks to Bendigo Bank's Community Bank, MCG had the opportunity to raise some funds with raffle tickets provided and great prizes to be won. A special thanks goes to Cheryl Ivey our Garden Coordinator who is usually the one who sets up and mans the MCG stall at events - she is a completely dedicated member and an invaluable asset!
Refurbished Pizza Oven
The pizza oven has been at Mandurah Community Gardens for years, originally built by hand by volunteer members. Unfortunately it had started to rust and water had egressed into the oven. With the help of Christine & her friend Helen they supervised and instructed on the refurbishment of the oven with mosaics. The oven has been given a new lease of life and will no doubt be used constantly in the cooler months of the year.
Mosaics By The Numbers
With the expert help of Christine, our members created custom designed plot numbers for the gardens.
Creative Repurposing
Kat, a member who joined us this year, put her painting skills to use on an old Weber BBQ lid and created a ladybug for the gardens. Our members are able to find so many ways to recycle and repurpose things!
Inter Community Garden Visits
In the spirit of community gardening, we have had the pleasure of visits from members of other community gardens to see what we do in our little patch. Members of Mandurah Community Gardens have also visited other community gardens over the year - there is always so much to do and it is great to be a part of the wider community of community gardeners!
MCG's 10th Anniversary Celebration
2022 marked 10 years of Mandurah Community Gardens being here for the community!
We celebrated with a grand party which was attended by long-time members, ex-members, current members, supporters and dignitaries.
The cake was really something special and was hard to cut being such a work of art, but it was easy to eat.
